{"id":8769,"date":"2017-08-01T13:15:14","date_gmt":"2017-08-01T17:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=8769"},"modified":"2017-08-01T13:15:14","modified_gmt":"2017-08-01T17:15:14","slug":"venezuela-country-breaking-point-opposition-leaders-seized-homes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2017\/08\/01\/venezuela-country-breaking-point-opposition-leaders-seized-homes\/","title":{"rendered":"Venezuela: Country at breaking point as opposition leaders seized from homes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<p>The seizure of two opposition leaders in Caracas late last night is a telling sign that the Maduro administration is desperate to silence all forms of criticism as the political and humanitarian crisis in the country approaches breaking point, Amnesty International said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Maduro administration is sending a terrifying message to all people in Venezuela: dissent will not be tolerated in any form,\u201d said Erika Guevara-Rosas, Americas Director at Amnesty International.<\/p>\n<p>In the early hours of the morning, officers from the Venezuelan intelligence services took Leopoldo L\u00f3pez, leader of the opposition party Voluntad Popular, and Antonio Ledezma, the mayor of Caracas from their homes without a warrant. Both men had been transferred to house arrest on health grounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe clock is ticking fast and time is running out for authorities in Venezuela to make a decisive U-turn when it comes to their approach to free expression.
