suspected wrongdoers from hiding their illegal acts behind orange robes,&#8221; Ormsin Chivapruck, an official at the prime minister&#8217;s office, told reporters.\u00a0 The government has already forced more than 46,000 temples to submit their financial accounts to authorities, amid claims of irregularities.\u00a0 Wirapol fled\u00a0Thailand\u00a0in 2013, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/national\/in-the-name-of-the-robe-20130818-2s5rp.html\">after video clips went viral on the internet<\/a> showing him travelling aboard a private jet carrying a Louis Vuitton bag and flicking through a huge wad of US dollar bills.<\/p>\n<div id=\"subscribe-newsletter\" class=\"panel panel--subscribe is_fm-newsletter-subscription\" walk on water, talk to deities, see into the future and was immune to cobra venom.\u00a0 He built what he claimed was the largest replica of the Emerald Buddha that is housed in\u00a0Bangkok&#8217;s\u00a0Grand\u00a0Palace, and had a fleet of more than 100 luxury cars and would travel throughout north-east\u00a0Thailand\u00a0with a police or military escort.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" in\u00a0Thailand\u00a0as Luang Pu, a title reserved for senior respected monks, Wirapol was expelled from the monkhood in absentia after his flaunting of immense wealth and boasting of supernatural powers.<\/p>\n<p>Police say he will face charges including rape, child abduction and money laundering if extradition is approved in the\u00a0US, where he has\u00a0become a citizen.\u00a0 Meanwhile, Thai authorities are continuing to search for 73-year-old Phra Dhammachayo, one of the country&#8217;s best known figures, who is accused of accepting millions of dollars from a local credit union and other charges.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/world\/thailand-authorities-end-23day-siege-of-dhammakaya-nations-largest-temple-20170311-guvxww.html\">For 23 days earlier this year<\/a>, 4000 police and soldiers besieged his\u00a0Dhammakaya\u00a0Temple\u00a0demanding he surrender.<\/p>\n<p>Phra Dhammachayo, who is said to have three million followers, insists he is innocent and his aides say he is too ill to face trial.<\/p>\n<p>The Dhammakaya Temple, which is\u00a010 times the size of the\u00a0Vatican and sits\u00a0on the outskirts of\u00a0Bangkok, has been linked in the past to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/world\/thailand-attacks-former-thai-pm-thaksin-shinawatra-moves-to-sue-accusers-20160814-gqs1fj.html\">former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra<\/a>, who was ousted in a 2006 coup and is living in exile to avoid\u00a0jail.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors say they have drawn up more than 350 charges relating to the temple&#8217;s
