Disgraced former American football star O.J. Simpson is expected to have a parole hearing next month that could see him released from prison as early as October 1, officials say. \u00a0Simpson, who turns 70 July 9, would be interviewed via closed-circuit TV from Lovelock Correctional Center in Lovelock, Nevada, according to Huffington Post.<\/p>\n
He has served more than eight years of a nine- to 33-year sentence imposed after he was found guilty in 2008 of armed robbery, kidnapping and other charges following a confrontation with two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas casino hotel in September 2007.<\/p>\n
The conviction happened 13 years to the day after Simpson was controversially acquitted for the 1994 killings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
Simpson has always maintained he was trying to retrieve personal mementos stolen from him after the famous trial.<\/p>\n
If he\u2019s granted parole, he would be released in October. If not, he could wait as long as five years for another parole board meeting, ABC News reports.<\/p>\n
Simpson\u2019s attorney in Las Vegas, Malcolm LaVergne, said he will be with his client at the medium-security prison in a small town 90 miles northeast of Reno.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf he\u2019s able to get parole, my prediction is he\u2019s going to want to live a quiet life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, there are reports that many reality show producers are hoping to build a show around the Hall of Fame football star, actor and advertising pitchman.<\/p>\n
