Shortly after 3 p.m., Montgomery Supervisor Michael Hayes said the man, identified later by state police as Anthony Bostick, 28, was dead.\u00a0 Police did not say how Bostick died, but the Times Heard-Record of Middletown reported he was shot by an officer.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Arnold \u201cButch\u201d Amthor was taken to St. Luke\u2019s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh for treatment after being shot and was \u201cexpected to make a full recovery,\u201d Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus said in a prepared statement.<\/p>\n<p>State police said Bostick shot Amthor after the chief and other officers responded to a domestic disturbance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was an exchange of gunfire, and Chief Amthor was struck in the upper torso,\u201d police said in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>Neuhaus said he visited Amthor at the hospital. He said they have been close friends for more than 20 years, since they worked together in the city of Newburgh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cButch is a true gentleman who has dedicated his life to law enforcement,\u201d Neuhaus said. \u201cI ask Orange County residents to keep Chief Amthor and his family in their prayers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neuhaus said the shooting \u201cserves as a reminder of the dangers of police work and how deserving of our support and encouragement law enforcement is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police at the scene after the shooting included SWAT teams from Orange and Sullivan counties, state police and officers from several municipal departments.
