Abby Lee Miller<\/a>, former host of Lifetime reality show Dance Moms<\/em><\/a>, has spoken out about her sentencing Tuesday<\/a> for bankruptcy fraud. She was sentenced to one year and one day in jail after pleading guilty<\/a> last June.<\/p>\n

Miller, 50, also took\u00a0$120,000 worth of Australian currency into the United States without reporting it, to which she also pleaded guilty last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cA year and a day,\u201d she\u00a0said on Wednesday\u2019s episode of\u00a0Good Morning America<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIt sounds like a movie title.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fighting back tears, Miller discussed her career as a kids\u2019 dance coach and looked forward to getting out of prison.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have spent so much time and so much energy making other people\u2019s children stars,\u201d she said. \u201cI didn\u2019t have any children of my own. These were my kids and I raised them like they were my kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

When she eventually finishes her sentence, she says, she hopes to \u201cbe a smarter businesswoman and also to worry about myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to prosecutors, Miller hid the money in secret bank accounts. With the $120,000, she split the money into separate bags and had friends carry them in their luggage in the summer of 2014. (By law, all travellers carrying in excess of $10,000 must declare it at customs. Miller failed to do so.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to hear that number anymore!\u201d exclaimed Miller when asked about the funds, once again claiming her actions weren\u2019t deliberate. \u201cI wasn\u2019t ever trying to hurt anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking back at her actions, she said she \u201cwould never have filed for bankruptcy, ever. I do not recommend it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout this case, Ms. Miller has taken both the allegations and the proceedings very seriously,\u201d Miller\u2019s lawyer Robert Ridge said in a statement.\u00a0\u201cThis has been a challenging time for Ms. Miller. She appreciates the words of encouragement and support from around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

She\u2019s afraid of what could happen to her in prison, especially because she\u2019s recognizable. \u201cI\u2019m afraid of being physically abused or raped,\u201d she admitted. \u201cI have to stay busy. If I thought about it every day, I\u2019d just sit around and cry.\u201d<\/p>\n

She plans to \u201cpretend [she\u2019s] shooting a movie\u201d while in jail, and act like she\u2019s on location; she also wants to learn Spanish and \u201cread more.\u201d And for those of you who want a deep insider look at Miller\u2019s experience, you\u2019re in luck \u2014 she\u2019s \u201calready working\u201d on a book.<\/p>\n

Reports estimate that Miller will most likely spend less than a year<\/a> behind bars, and be released after 10 months. She has to surrender herself in the next 44 days.<\/p>\n
