He faced a judge in his hospital room at Tufts Medical Center on multiple charges, including\u00a0the murder charges in the deaths of Richard Field, 50, and\u00a0Lina Bolanos, 38, anesthesiologists who were found Friday night bound\u00a0and left for dead<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"South Boston Murders Suspect Arraigned From Hospital Bed\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ctLn8PUmlFA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Bampumim\u00a0Teixeira kept his eyes closed through most of the proceeding but at the end of the arraignment opened his eyes to say \u201cThank you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Teixeira was ordered held without\u00a0bail.<\/p>\n<p>Suffolk County prosecutor\u00a0John Pappas said\u00a0Richard Field was able to text a friend that a gunman was in the engaged couple&#8217;s apartment.<\/p>\n<p>The friend called the building&#8217;s front desk, and police were then called.<\/p>\n<p>Responding officers\u00a0encountered Teixeira, who immediately began shooting at them, Pappas said.<\/p>\n<p>Officers returned fire, and Teixeira was shot multiple times and\u00a0taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his hand, leg and abdomen.\u00a0No officers were shot, but &#8220;several&#8221; were transported to hospitals with minor injuries, police\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>However, these initial reports to the media that Teixeira began shooting at them were later corrected.<\/p>\n<p>Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley held a news conference to correct details of the investigation. In addition to saying the suspect did not fire at police, Conley also clarified earlier statements by Boston Police Commissioner William Evans, who said he believed the doctors knew their assailant.<\/p>\n<p>Conley said police entered the apartment and were confronted by Teixeira. He said police \u2014 in the darkened apartment \u2014 believed Teixeira either pointed or fired a gun at them. Authorities now believe that one officer responded by firing his weapon, then other officers also fired their guns.<\/p>\n<p>Conley said police found a BB gun or a \u201creplica gun\u201d inside a backpack in the apartment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are simply informing the public to correct the record,\u201d Conley said.<\/p>\n<p>Conley also said there is \u201cno evidence whatsoever\u201d at this point to conclude Teixeira had a personal relationship with Field or Bolanos.<\/p>\n<p>John Pappas reported earlier that a police &#8220;entry team&#8221; was called in and found the bodies. He did not say how they were killed, but local media have reported that their throats were slit.<\/p>\n<p>Pappas also said that a backpack full of jewelry, believed to have been taken from\u00a0Bolanos, was found in the apartment.<\/p>\n<p>Teixeira has twice been convicted of larceny and had recently been released from jail, authorities said.\u00a0Last June, he passed a note demanding money at a Boston bank.
