{"id":634,"date":"2016-10-07T19:53:31","date_gmt":"2016-10-07T23:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=634"},"modified":"2016-10-07T19:53:31","modified_gmt":"2016-10-07T23:53:31","slug":"ms-police-officer-charged-with-manslaughter-of-daughter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2016\/10\/07\/ms-police-officer-charged-with-manslaughter-of-daughter\/","title":{"rendered":"MS Police Officer Charged With Manslaughter Of Daughter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long Beach, MS Police Officer Cassie Barker, 27, has been charged with manslaughter in the death of her daughter, after leaving 3-year-old Cheyenne Hyer\u00a0in her patrol car for four hours Friday, October 7, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Barker&#8217;s patrol car was parked in the driveway of her supervisor, Sgt. Clark Ladner&#8217;s home, with the engine running and Cheyenne in her car seat. \u00a0Both officers were off-duty Friday\u00a0morning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is a department policy that family members are not allowed in patrol cars, unless the exception is if they&#8217;re coming or going to or from work to be dropped off at childcare,&#8221; said Police Chief Wayne McDowell. \u00a0McDowell also revealed that both Barker and Ladner&#8217; shift ended at 6 am Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Barker told investigators she stopped by Ladner&#8217;s home around 9 am to discuss a, &#8220;work related issue&#8221;. \u00a0She further told investigators\u00a0the two had fallen asleep.<\/p>\n<p>Barker claimed she intended to be in Ladner&#8217;s home for only a few minutes and left the patrol car&#8217;s motor running and the air conditioning on. \u00a0Investigation revealed the air conditioner thermostat was set to halfway between cool and heat.<\/p>\n<p>Barker and Ladner were fired from the Long Beach (MS) Police Department Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Barker was investigated by\u00a0Child Protective Services (CPS) in May 2015 for an allegation of child neglect that included leaving Cheyenne unattended in a vehicle. \u00a0Conclusions, findings and results of that investigation are not available at this time, but other records show Barker served\u00a0a one-week suspension without pay and a 90-day extension of probation in May 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Follow <a href=\"http:\/\/worldjustcenews.com\/news\">worldjustcenews.com\/news<\/a> for more on this story and justice news from around the world!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">Long Beach, MS Police Officer Cassie Barker, 27, has been charged with manslaughter in the death of her daughter, after leaving 3-year-old Cheyenne Hyer\u00a0in her patrol car for four hours Friday, October 7, 2016.
