A dad-of-three who doused his daughter in petrol and then set fire to her says he did it because his daughter \u2018was too beautiful\u2019, a court has heard.<\/p>\n

Edward Herbert, 43, is accused of pouring petrol over his three-year-old in front of his partner after a day of drinking and smoking\u00a0cannabis at their home in Perth, Australia.\u00a0 He then set the girl on fire and poured petrol over his seven-year-old daughter.\u00a0 His younger daughter was left with burns to her face and upper body and required surgery and laser scar management.<\/p>\n

The court heard how around midnight, Herbert told his wife \u2018the werewolf is coming at 12pm\u2019 and \u2018that\u2019s it b****, I am going to kill you\u2019 to his daughter before getting petrol and entering her room.\u00a0 He then poured petrol over the young child and set her alight before dousing the older child in petrol. According to reports, the family\u2019s neighbour Daniel McMillan arrived shortly after and found Mr Herbert in the kitchen drinking beer. Herbert then allegedly told Mr McMillan that they were his kids so he\u00a0could do whatever he wanted and that his young daughter was too beautiful and that is why he burnt her.<\/p>\n

He is accused of two counts of doing an act with intent to unlawfully kill, threatening to kill his partner, being armed with a knife in circumstances likely to cause fear and doing an act likely to endanger life with intent to harm.<\/p>\n

Herbert admits burning his child but claims he was insane at the time and so not guilty.<\/p>\n

The trial continues.<\/p>\n
