{"id":5751,"date":"2017-02-14T13:00:33","date_gmt":"2017-02-14T18:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=5751"},"modified":"2017-02-14T13:00:33","modified_gmt":"2017-02-14T18:00:33","slug":"police-job-candidate-arrested-drunk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2017\/02\/14\/police-job-candidate-arrested-drunk\/","title":{"rendered":"Police job candidate arrested for being drunk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A police job candidate was arrested for drinking and driving after he turned up for a interview smelling of alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>A Greater Manchester Police employee noticed an &#8220;overpowering smell&#8221; on the man&#8217;s breath during an interview for an IT management role.<\/p>\n<p>Tipsy Andrew Jackson, 48, then disclosed he had had trouble parking, was breathalysed and arrested.<\/p>\n<p>In court, he admitted drinking and driving and was banned for a year, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The IT worker appeared at Bury and Rochdale Magistrates&#8217; Court on Friday, was fined \u00a3120 with a \u00a330 victim surcharge and ordered to pay \u00a385 costs.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Jackson, of Barlow Moor Road, Didsbury, Manchester was told his ban would be reduced to seven months on completion of a drink-driving awareness course.<\/p>\n<p>His hour-long interview took place on 25 January at a training centre in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, but he fell foul of the law when he revealed his travel arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>The interviewer, a civilian worker, said: &#8220;I asked if he had any trouble in finding us. As soon as he began to speak I could smell something on his breath which I was thought was stale alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He mentioned that he did have a little trouble in finding somewhere to park, which immediately raised concerns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Shortly after he arrived in the small office, the smell of alcohol became overpowering.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The interviewer then made his excuses at the end of the interview and left the room to ask a police officer&#8217;s advice.<\/p>\n<p>A traffic officer quizzed the man over whether he had been drinking but he was adamant that not a drop had touched his lips that morning.<\/p>\n<p>However Mr Jackson did admit to sharing a bottle of wine with his wife the night before during a meal out.<\/p>\n<p>The traffic officer then marched him out of the building to a nearby patrol car and gave him a breathalyser test, which he duly failed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-manchester-38969740\" target=\"_blank\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">A police job candidate was arrested for drinking and driving after he turned up for a interview smelling of alcohol.
