{"id":5555,"date":"2017-02-02T10:51:38","date_gmt":"2017-02-02T15:51:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=5555"},"modified":"2017-02-02T10:51:38","modified_gmt":"2017-02-02T15:51:38","slug":"trial-set-tulsa-officer-charged-death-unarmed-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2017\/02\/02\/trial-set-tulsa-officer-charged-death-unarmed-man\/","title":{"rendered":"Trial set for Tulsa officer charged in death of unarmed man"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TULSA, Okla. \u2013\u00a0An Oklahoma police officer accused of manslaughter in the death of a Tulsa man last year will be going to trial in May.<\/p>\n<p>Last September, 40-year-old <a href=\"http:\/\/kfor.com\/?s=Terence+Crutcher\">Terence Crutcher<\/a> was shot and killed by Tulsa Officer Betty Shelby after his car was stopped in the middle of a roadway.<\/p>\n<p>Officers at the scene say Crutcher was acting erratically and was not following commands.<\/p>\n<p>According to the affidavit, Shelby asked Crutcher if the vehicle was his and if it was disabled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was mumbling to himself and would not answer any of Officer Shelby\u2019s questions. Mr. Crutcher kept putting his hands in his pockets and Officer Shelby kept telling him to show his hands. At that point, Mr. Crutcher began walking towards the abandoned vehicle with his hands held up and was not responding to any of Officer Shelby\u2019s commands to stop,\u201d the affidavit claims.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kfor.com\/2016\/09\/19\/we-will-achieve-justice-tulsa-police-release-dash-cam-video-of-deadly-officer-involved-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\">In the dash cam video,<\/a> you see Crutcher walking away from an officer and toward his vehicle with his hands up.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/localtvkfor.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/09\/terencecrutcher.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shortly after that, Crutcher was shot.
