{"id":5472,"date":"2017-01-30T12:45:59","date_gmt":"2017-01-30T17:45:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=5472"},"modified":"2017-01-30T12:45:59","modified_gmt":"2017-01-30T17:45:59","slug":"family-dumped-man-dementia-uk-car-park-flew-back-america-without","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2017\/01\/30\/family-dumped-man-dementia-uk-car-park-flew-back-america-without\/","title":{"rendered":"Family \u2018dumped man with dementia in UK car park then flew back to America without him\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An elderly man\u2019s wife and son stand accused of taking\u00a0him to Britain and abandoning him in a car park, before flying home to America.<\/p>\n<p>Roger Curry, who has dementia, was abandoned at a bus station two years ago with no ID, wearing only brand new clothes from Tesco, American court documents allege.<\/p>\n<p>The 76-year-old pensioner did not know his name or where he was, the file, seen by BBC\u2019s Panorama said.<\/p>\n<p>He was reportedly seen with two men, who flagged down a passing ambulance.\u00a0One of the men \u2013 described as having an American accent, but younger than Mr Curry \u2013 allegedly vanished from the scene.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of his discovery, police appealed for help to identify the \u2018vulnerable\u2019 man.<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0was taken into the care of a nursing home while police and social services spent months trying to find out who he was.<\/p>\n<div class=\"vjs-video-container vjs-responsive\">\u00a0His identity was finally discovered when somebody recognised an old yearbook photo of him after seeing a news report on BBC Midlands.<\/div>\n<p>As part of the police investigation, a 50-year-old man from Taunton, Somerset, was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and was bailed. He has not been charged.<\/p>\n<p>West Mercia Police said they also wanted to trace a man, described as being in his forties, who was seen to be walking with Mr Curry towards Hereford County Hospital on the day he was discovered.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Curry\u2019s son Kevin, who was interviewed by Panorama, said he had had nothing to do with the abandonment of his father.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\u00a0He told the programme that he became ill while they were on holiday in the UK, so he asked a friend to take him to hospital.<\/div>\n<p>But he didn\u2019t explain why he then left him in England for eight months without telling people who he was.<\/p>\n<p>Elderly people are sometimes abandoned at hospitals in what is known as \u2018granny-dumping\u2019, due to the high cost of health care in America.<\/p>\n<div>Read more: <a href=\"http:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2017\/01\/30\/family-dumped-dementia-sufferer-in-uk-car-park-then-flew-back-to-america-without-him-6415206\/#ixzz4XGdSgu3b\">metro<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">An elderly man\u2019s wife and son stand accused of taking\u00a0him to Britain and abandoning him in a car park, before flying home to America.
