His Brazilian wife, Francoise Amiridis, and a local policeman are being questioned.<\/p>\n<p>Police in Rio are working on the assumption that Mrs Amiridis was having an extramarital affair with the detained policeman and had conspired to kill him, local media reported.<\/p>\n<p>The couple had been living together for 15 years and had a 10-year-old daughter, local news programme RJTV reported.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Amiridis served as consul in Rio de Janeiro between 2001 and 2004 and returned to the country as ambassador earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>He had travelled from Brasilia to the city of Nova Iguacu, north of Rio, to spend the Christmas holidays there with his wife and her parents.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Amiridis reported Mr Amiridis missing on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>She told police that he had left the apartment in the car he had rented on Monday evening without telling her where he was going.<\/p>\n<p>The burnt-out car was found on Thursday under a flyover on one of the main access roads to Rio with a body inside.<\/p>\n<p>Forensic tests have revealed the body is that of Mr Amiridis.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also said that they had found blood stains on the sofa in the apartment that the couple were staying in.<\/p>\n<p>They told local media that they thought Mr Amiridis had been killed in the apartment before his body was taken away in his rental car.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE<\/strong> &#8211; Greek ambassador was killed by Brazil police officer, who was having an affair with envoy&#8217;s wife, investigator says<\/p>\n<p>Source <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-latin-america-38467304\" target=\"_blank\">bbc<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">BRAZIL &#8211; Police in Rio de Janeiro have detained the Greek ambassador&#8217;s wife and three other people on suspicion of involvement in his murder.
