A man who stabbed a family friend with a metal object during the school run has received a suspended sentence having spent almost two weeks in jail. Anvar Ghambari (39) attacked the victim in the school yard when both men were dropping their sons off in the morning.
\nHe wanted to confront the victim about comments he allegedly made about his wife and stabbed the victim four times around the head and punched and kicked him.<\/p>\n
Ghambari of Cushlawn Way, Tallaght, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm to Majid Suhrabi at St Melroon’s school, Tallaght on March 1, 2016.<\/p>\n
The court heard that Ghambari did not come armed to the incident but he pulled a metal stabiliser from a children’s bicycle during the attack.<\/p>\n
Ghambari was shouting “I’m going to kill you, I swear to god, I’m going to kill you” while he stabbed the victim’s head before departing the yard.<\/p>\n
One-off<\/p>\n
The victim still suffers from memory loss.<\/p>\n
Both he and Ghambari were asked not to bring their sons to school in case of a repeat and Mr Suhrabi said he missed doing this.<\/p>\n
Judge Martin Nolan adjourned the case two weeks ago having heard evidence and remanded Ghambari in custody.
\nHe accepted that this was “a one-off fall from grace” for Ghambari, who has no previous convictions.<\/p>\n
He noted that a report by the Probation Services was positive.<\/p>\n
Yesterday Judge Nolan sentenced Ghambari to three years in prison which he suspended in full.<\/p>\n
He said “even though what he did was reprehensible and it was a frightening experience for the victim, I don’t believe he deserves an immediate custodial sentence. You’ve been in custody for a period of time, if you breach this order, that’s what awaits you,” Judge Nolan told Ghambari.<\/p>\n
