{"id":4063,"date":"2016-12-13T09:13:14","date_gmt":"2016-12-13T14:13:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=4063"},"modified":"2016-12-13T09:13:14","modified_gmt":"2016-12-13T14:13:14","slug":"ex-wife-former-billabong-boss-matthew-perrin-cries-lost-home-fraud-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2016\/12\/13\/ex-wife-former-billabong-boss-matthew-perrin-cries-lost-home-fraud-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-wife of former Billabong boss Matthew Perrin cries over lost home during fraud trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content__article-body from-content-api js-article__body\" data-test-id=\"article-review-body\">\n<p>The ex-wife of former <a class=\"u-underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/billabong\" data-link-name=\"auto-linked-tag\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Billabong<\/a> boss Matthew Perrin has broken down in court as she described how he confessed to losing their \u201cforever home\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Perrin used the family\u2019s custom-built property on Cronin Island, Surfers Paradise, as security for $13.5m credit from the Commonwealth Bank.<\/p>\n<p>The former chief executive of the surfwear company allegedly forged the signature of Nicole Bricknell, then his wife, on the mortgage documents.<\/p>\n<p>Perrin called the family together after his investments went wrong and allegedly said: \u201cI\u2019m going to jail, I\u2019ve done a lot of bad things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bricknell said he had previously promised her that the house was in her name and was safe after she discovered he had been having an affair. She initially thought he was going to admit he had been unfaithful again but he replied \u201cit\u2019s much worse than that\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The trial at the district court in Brisbane had to be halted when Bricknell broke down in tears and began hyperventilating during her evidence.<\/p>\n<p>The couple had designed and built the $15m property together as a \u201cforever home\u201d for them and their three children, Bricknell said.<\/p>\n<p>Perrin has admitted signing his former wife\u2019s name but claims he had her permission to do so. She has insisted to the court she had no idea what he was doing and never gave him authority to sign on her behalf.<\/p>\n<p>Bricknell was a beautician before quitting work to stay at home and look after the couple\u2019s children. She said she looked after the household and her husband dealt with all their finances.<\/p>\n<p>Perrin is also accused of faking his brother\u2019s signature as a witness on the paperwork.
