A 12-year-old girl was killed after a shooting broke out over an apparent dispute over parking, Baltimore police said.<\/p>\n

According to Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley, police responded to reports of gunshots at Leon Day Park playground at 6.15pm (11.15pm UK) on Saturday.<\/p>\n

He told a press conference that officers found the girl and a woman with gunshot wounds at the scene, and that two men had sought treatment at local hospitals.<\/p>\n

Mr Worley said that while the three adults were injured but not in life-threatening condition, the girl was pronounced dead in hospital.<\/p>\n

The police commissioner said that “what we know is there was some type of argument between two cowards” over what officers believe to be about a parking spot, and that the girl was not a direct target.<\/p>\n

Mr Worley added. “They both opened fire on each other. In the crossfire, a 12-year-old little girl, who was probably down there watching football, was shot and killed.”<\/p>\n

He then said that investigations were ongoing, and urged witnesses to come forward.<\/p>\n

Also speaking at the press conference, Baltimore mayor Brandon Scott said: “Two grown men got into an argument, and now a 12-year-old is gone.<\/p>\n

“We never should have to say something like that. What happened out here today is one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen in my life.”<\/p>\n
