{"id":30915,"date":"2026-06-21T07:17:54","date_gmt":"2026-06-21T11:17:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=30915"},"modified":"2026-06-21T07:17:54","modified_gmt":"2026-06-21T11:17:54","slug":"suspected-ecuador-gang-leader-shot-dead-in-flower-bouquet-ambush-at-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2026\/06\/21\/suspected-ecuador-gang-leader-shot-dead-in-flower-bouquet-ambush-at-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"Suspected Ecuador gang leader shot dead in flower bouquet ambush at airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ssrcss-vxwoax-ComponentWrapper e1aon0op1\" data-block=\"text\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-126h8e-Spacer e1aon0op0\">\n<div data-testid=\"rich-text\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-nqezkk-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">An Ecuadorean man, who police accuse of leading a faction of one of the country&#8217;s most feared criminal gangs, has been shot dead as he was leaving the airport in Ecuador&#8217;s largest city, Guayaquil.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Security footage shows two young men waiting outside the arrivals terminal holding stuffed toys and flowers before one of them approaches the victim, pulls his gun from behind a teddy and shoots him point-blank.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Police have detained two teenagers in connection with the crime, the latest in a widespread wave of gang violence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This latest deadly shooting came just a day after Ecuador&#8217;s president declared a fresh state of emergency in 10 provinces, including Guayas, where the attack unfolded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Ecuador&#8217;s interior minister, John Reimberg, identified the victim of Wednesday&#8217;s attack as 39-year-old Carlos Alberto Su\u00e1stegui Villanueva, who he said was the leader of the Los \u00c1guilas gang in El Triunfo, a region east of Guayaquil.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Los \u00c1guilas, which was designated as a &#8220;terrorist organisation&#8221;
