{"id":30834,"date":"2026-06-01T02:49:25","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T06:49:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=30834"},"modified":"2026-06-01T02:50:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T06:50:15","slug":"ex-cia-officer-accused-of-stealing-300-gold-bars-worth-40m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2026\/06\/01\/ex-cia-officer-accused-of-stealing-300-gold-bars-worth-40m\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-CIA officer accused of stealing 300 gold bars worth $40m"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former senior CIA official with top secret-level clearance has been accused of stealing hundreds of gold bars worth more than $40m (\u00a329.6m) and stashing them in his home.<\/p>\n<p>Officials also seized around $2m (\u00a31.5m) in cash as well as dozens of luxury watches earlier this month, according to the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>David Rush was arrested and charged with criminal theft of public money last week, court documents show, after more than 300 gold bars were seized from his home in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/virginia-5686\/1\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Virginia<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>The bureau, which is working with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/cia-8102\/1\" target=\"_self\"><strong>CIA<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and US Department of Justice in its investigation, alleges that &#8211; from November to March &#8211; Rush requested and received a &#8220;significant quantity of foreign currency and tens of millions of dollars in gold bars for work-related expenses&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It claims Rush &#8220;knowingly embezzled, stole, purloined, or knowingly converted a thing of value of the United States&#8221; for his personal use, but that it remains unclear exactly what Rush intended to use the money for.<\/p>\n<p>A portion of the funds were discovered in a storage space near his office, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>Rush is currently being held in custody pending a hearing in federal court in Alexandria on Friday. His lawyers are yet to comment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fabricated backstory<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is not clear what role Rush had at the CIA or when he left the agency.
