She is also accused of using public resources to advance private interests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She was charged with embezzlement, influence peddling, corruption in business dealings and misappropriation of funds, the ruling said. It is now up to the courts to decide whether she will stand trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">G\u00f3mez denies the charges, while S\u00e1nchez has dismissed the allegations as an attempt by the right-wing to undermine his coalition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-vxwoax-ComponentWrapper e1aon0op1\" data-block=\"text\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-126h8e-Spacer e1aon0op0\">\n<div data-testid=\"rich-text\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-nqezkk-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The investigation was opened by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado in April 2024 to determine whether\u00a0<a class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-europe-68887669\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">G\u00f3mez had exploited her position as the prime minister&#8217;s wife for private gain.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She is accused of using her position to secure a post at the prestigious university where she directed a master&#8217;s degree course in business studies. The judge points to G\u00f3mez&#8217;s lack of relevant qualifications as evidence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The complaint against G\u00f3mez was raised by anti-corruption campaigners Manos Limpias (Clean Hands), led by a man linked to the far-right called Miguel Bernad.
