BURMA – Tun Naing, a Burmese exorcist, has pleaded guilty to the murder of three young children, a three year old boy, two year old girl and a baby.\u00a0 \u00a0After telling their parents their children were possessed, Naing punched and kicked two toddlers and an eight-month-old baby to death last month in a tiny village outside Yangon.\u00a0He put the villagers in a ‘trance’ and then killed the children over two days as their families watched.\u00a0 Speaking as police led him away from the court hearing, Naing said, ‘I did it because I lost control of my mind at that time as the dark spirit took over me.’<\/p>\n
A police report confirmed the bodies of the children showed evidence of being punched, kicked and stamped on.<\/p>\n
Naing had also attempted to hide the bodies.<\/p>\n
The uncle of the dead boy said the villagers lost their senses after Naing fed them ‘blessed’ water and made them stand in a circle as he recited incantations,\u00a0 \u201cBecause of what he did everyone was out of their mind.\u00a0 I still feel afraid of something in my mind. I don’t understand what is happening… Some people have gone to other mystics to release themselves from the curse.’<\/p>\n
Local lieutenant-major Kyaw Naing Soe said the ‘exorcist’ put the villagers into a trance, then killed the children as they watched.<\/p>\n
Hospital workers alerted authorities after the father of another little girl, aged four, who had been beaten brought her to hospital covered in bruises.<\/p>\n
Naing could face death sentence if found guilty on all counts.<\/p>\n
