{"id":29616,"date":"2025-07-09T05:48:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T09:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=29616"},"modified":"2025-07-09T05:48:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T09:48:13","slug":"canadian-armed-forces-members-plotted-anti-government-militia-police-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2025\/07\/09\/canadian-armed-forces-members-plotted-anti-government-militia-police-say\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian Armed Forces members plotted &#8216;anti-government militia&#8217;, police say"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ssrcss-suhx0k-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-1o5p6v2-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Four men, including two members of the Canadian Armed Forces, are facing charges in Canada over an alleged plot to create an &#8220;anti-government militia&#8221; and &#8220;forcibly&#8221; seize land, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) says.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Police say three of the suspects took part in military-style training, shooting exercises and scouting operations in the Qu\u00e9bec City area as part of their alleged plot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The group are also alleged to have stored explosive devices, dozens of firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition, all of which were seized by the RCMP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">All four have been arrested and are due to appear in Qu\u00e9bec City court on Tuesday, police said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-suhx0k-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-1o5p6v2-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The men charged include Marc-Aur\u00e8le Chabot, 24, and Rapha\u00ebl Lagac\u00e9, 25, both from Qu\u00e9bec City, as well as Simon Angers-Audet, 24, of Neuville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The trio are accused of taking &#8220;concrete actions to facilitate terrorist activity,&#8221; the RCMP said in its news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A fourth man, 33-year-old Matthew Forbes of Pont-Rouge &#8211; a town nearly 28 miles (45km) west of Qu\u00e9bec City &#8211; was also charged in relation to the alleged plot. He was accused of possessing firearms, some of which are prohibited in Canada, as well as explosives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Police said a search conducted in January 2024 led to the seizure of 16 explosive devices, 83 firearms and accessories, nearly 11,000 rounds of ammunition and around 130 magazines.
