One crew member remains missing and is thought to have died &#8211; a Filipino national named as Mark Angelo Pernia.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian captain of the Solong ship that was involved in the North Sea crash has appeared in court.<\/p>\n<p>Vladimir Motin, of Primorsky, St Petersburg, was remanded into custody after appearing at Hull Magistrates&#8217; (<span class=\"u-hide-visually\">Image:<\/span> Reuters\/Paige Langley)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A large search and rescue operation was launched and successfully brought 36 people from both ships back ashore.<\/p>\n<p>The Portuguese-flagged Solong had been sailing from Grangemouth, in Scotland, to Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, at the time of the collision.<\/p>\n<p>It was initially feared to be carrying sodium cyanide, but the German owner Ernst Russ said four containers on the vessel had previously been carrying the chemical.<\/p>\n<p>The Stena Immaculate is still at anchor at the same point where the collision happened.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Solong drifted south of this location, but both vessels were said to be &#8220;stable&#8221;, with salvors having boarded to assess the damage.<\/p>\n<p>The Stena Immaculate had been carrying 220,000 barrels of jet fuel in 16 segregated tanks &#8211; at least one of which was &#8220;ruptured&#8221; during the collision, US shipping firm Crowley, who operates the ship, said.<\/p>\n<p>But it said the jet fuel spill was having a &#8220;limited&#8221; impact.<\/p>\n<p>Most of it had burned off, and there were no signs of further leaks from either ship.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations are still ongoing, currently led by the Marine Accident Investigations Branch, to establish the cause of the collision.<\/p>\n<p>The coastguard is also continuing to monitor the ships in case they release more pollution.<\/p>\n<p>Source: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/sky-news-logo-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/sky-news-logo-1.png\" alt=\"Sky News\" width=\"100\" height=\"20\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/russian-captain-of-ship-in-north-sea-crash-appears-in-court-13328993\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news.sky.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">On Monday March 10, 2025, the US oil tanker the Stena Immaculate and the Portuguese-flagged Solong collided in the North Sea off the coast of Yorkshire.
