{"id":29027,"date":"2025-03-01T09:03:03","date_gmt":"2025-03-01T14:03:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=29027"},"modified":"2025-03-01T09:03:03","modified_gmt":"2025-03-01T14:03:03","slug":"former-brookside-actor-jailed-over-13m-modelling-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2025\/03\/01\/former-brookside-actor-jailed-over-13m-modelling-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Brookside actor jailed over \u00a313m modelling fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">A former Brookside actor who masterminded a \u00a313.6million fraud operation that conned thousands of would-be models has been jailed.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Philip Foster, 49, who played Christian Wright in the Liverpool soap, ran a network of fake modelling agencies for more than eight years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Foster, who lived in Marbella, Spain, was given an eight-and-a-half-year prison sentence at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday for conspiracy to defraud.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Eight other people were sentenced in relation to the fraud and an arrest warrant was issued for Foster and an associate after both failed to appear in court.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">More than 6,000 victims parted with money on the false promise of securing paid modelling work from Foster, whose address was given as Chermside Road, Liverpool, but who operated from his base in Spain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He used a network of associates in England to operate a string of sham modelling agencies and photography studios in cities including London, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Coventry and Nottingham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The scam was uncovered in a six-year investigation by National Trading Standards (NTS).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">After sentencing, NTS chairman Lord Bichard said Foster&#8217;s &#8220;cruel exploits left thousands of victims in serious debt, causing lasting emotional distress and significant financial pressures&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-19w8cxh-ComponentWrapper-HeadlineComponentWrapper egtrm1f0\" data-component=\"subheadline-block\">\n<h2 id=\"Payday-loans\" class=\"ssrcss-pbttu9-Heading e10rt3ze0\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span role=\"text\">Payday loans<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Victims first received emails telling them they had potential after they responded to a social media advertising campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They were invited to a &#8220;free&#8221; They are arranged in two rows of four, one on top of the other and showing the people left to right in the order as listed.\" width=\"3840\" height=\"2160.049927189515\" \/><\/picture><\/span><\/div><figcaption class=\"ssrcss-179o3th-StyledFigureCaption ehbdhz00\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-y7krbn-Stack e1y4nx260\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Eight other defendants received jail terms or suspended prison sentences (Image: <span class=\"ssrcss-tvuve5-StyledFigureCopyright e34k3c20\" role=\"text\">National Trading Standards)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The sham agencies, which paid no tax, existed for short periods before being dissolved and rebranded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Money from the scam was laundered through UK bank accounts before being transferred to Spain, or carried in cash on commercial flights by co-conspirators, the NTS said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">North Yorkshire councillor Greg White said: &#8220;Foster and his fellow scammers cruelly exploited young hopefuls trying to break into one of the most competitive industries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;In some cases, parents borrowed money or sacrificed savings believing they were investing in their children&#8217;s futures.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Foster bought high-end watches and cars with his share of the proceeds, while many victims told NTS investigators they had been left financially and emotionally devastated and felt humiliated and betrayed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Some experienced lasting distress that affected their confidence, wellbeing and ability to trust others, the court heard.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The other defendants sentenced for conspiracy to defraud were:<\/p>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-1le81vw-ListContainer e5tfeyi0\">\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Michael Foster, 27, of Florence Gardens in Hereford and who failed to turn up to court, was jailed for three and a half years<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Jamie Peters, 52, of Warrington, received a suspended 24-month prison sentence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Lisa Foster, 42, of Manchester Road in Astley, was given an 18-month suspended prison sentence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Emily Newall, 29, of Bolton Road, Kearsley, was handed a 10-month suspended prison sentence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Atif Qadar, 44, of Larkswood Drive in Crowthorne, got a suspended 12-month prison sentence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Paul Fleury, 57, of Manchester Road, Swinton, received a suspended 18-month prison sentence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Additionally, the following sentences were passed for charges relating to money laundering:<\/p>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-1le81vw-ListContainer e5tfeyi0\">\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Paul Evans, 39, of no known address, jailed for three and a half years<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Aslihan Foster, 39, of Tredington Road, Coventry, received an18-month suspended prison sentence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c86pj0dg7ejo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">A former Brookside actor who masterminded a \u00a313.6million fraud operation that conned thousands of would-be models has been jailed.
