{"id":28668,"date":"2024-11-27T07:30:57","date_gmt":"2024-11-27T12:30:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=28668"},"modified":"2024-11-27T07:30:57","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T12:30:57","slug":"stephen-lawrence-murder-suspect-jamie-acourt-jailed-over-serious-crime-order-breach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2024\/11\/27\/stephen-lawrence-murder-suspect-jamie-acourt-jailed-over-serious-crime-order-breach\/","title":{"rendered":"Stephen Lawrence murder suspect Jamie Acourt jailed over serious crime order breach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the original suspects in the murder of Stephen Lawrence has been jailed for six months after flouting a serious criminal behaviour order.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Acourt, 48, was among those arrested after 18-year-old\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/stephen-lawrence-8051\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Mr Lawrence<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was stabbed to death in a racially-motivated attack in Eltham, south-east\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/london-5860\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>London<\/strong><\/a>, on 22 April 1993.<\/p>\n<p>He has always denied being involved and has never been convicted over the murder but was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/stephen-lawrence-death-suspect-jailed-for-nine-years-for-drugs-offences-11574011\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>jailed for nine years<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in 2018 for masterminding a two-year \u00a33m drugs plot.<\/p>\n<p>Acourt, who spent two years on the run living in Spain under the alias Simon Alfonzo before he was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/jamie-acourt-will-not-challenge-extradition-following-arrest-in-spain-11361199\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>extradited to the UK<\/strong><\/a>, was released from prison in November 2022 after serving half his sentence.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_28669\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28669\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Stephen-Lawrence-AFP.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-28669\" src=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Stephen-Lawrence-AFP.jpg\" alt=\"Stephen Lawrence\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Stephen-Lawrence-AFP.jpg 640w, https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Stephen-Lawrence-AFP-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28669\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stephen Lawrence was murdered in 1993 (Image: AFP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But he has been sent back to jail after breaching a serious criminal behaviour order &#8211; imposed by the judge at Kingston Crown Court &#8211; by failing to tell police he was driving a white transit van on 12 separate occasions between 11 August and 21 October.<\/p>\n<p>Acourt pleaded guilty to the charge, as well as driving without insurance, and was jailed for six months and had six points put on his licence at a hearing at Westminster Magistrates&#8217; Court last month, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/metropolitan-police-6381\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Metropolitan Police<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0said the offences related to an incident in Park Way, in Hounslow, west London, on 21 October.<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents seen by Sky News, he was handed a custodial sentence &#8220;because the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>When Acourt was brought before a court for failing to pay back \u00a390,000 he made from the drugs plot last year, he claimed he was earning \u00a33,600 a month as a courier but had been offered a job with a construction firm.<\/p>\n<p>His brother Neil Acourt, who was also arrested over Mr Lawrence&#8217;s murder, was jailed for more than six years over the same drugs conspiracy.<\/p>\n<p>Some 750kg of cannabis resin, with an estimated street value of about \u00a33m was moved between London and South Shields, Tyne and Wear.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Dobson and David Norris were handed life sentences in 2012 after being found guilty of Mr Lawrence&#8217;s murder at the Old Bailey.<\/p>\n<p>A fifth suspect Luke Knight has remained free, while Matthew White, who was arrested twice over the killing but never prosecuted, died aged 50 before he was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/stephen-lawrence-murder-metropolitan-police-name-new-suspect-30-years-on-12909714\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>named as a suspect<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0after a BBC investigation last year.<\/p>\n<p>Source: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/sky-news-logo-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/sky-news-logo-1.png\" alt=\"Sky News\" width=\"100\" height=\"20\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/stephen-lawrence-murder-suspect-jamie-acourt-jailed-over-serious-crime-order-breach-13261151\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news.sky.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">One of the original suspects in the murder of Stephen Lawrence has been jailed for six months after flouting a serious criminal behaviour order.
