{"id":28588,"date":"2024-11-15T10:09:25","date_gmt":"2024-11-15T15:09:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=28588"},"modified":"2024-11-15T10:48:57","modified_gmt":"2024-11-15T15:48:57","slug":"five-guilty-of-mistaken-identity-murders-of-two-young-teenager-friends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2024\/11\/15\/five-guilty-of-mistaken-identity-murders-of-two-young-teenager-friends\/","title":{"rendered":"Five guilty of mistaken identity murders of two young teenager friends"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">A group of teenagers and a man have been found guilty of murdering two best friends in a case of mistaken identity.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mason Rist, 15, and Max Dixon, 16, were stabbed to death yards from Mason&#8217;s front door in Knowle West, Bristol, on 27 January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Antony Snook, 45, Riley Tolliver, 18, and two boys, 17 and 16, had all denied murder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A 15-year-old boy admitted murdering Mason but denied killing Max, however a jury at Bristol Crown Court found each member of the group guilty of both murders.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The jury of nine men and three women took 18 hours 45 minutes deliberating before returning the verdicts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">As the jury foreman returned the verdicts none of the defendants showed any reaction from the dock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Members of Mason and Max\u2019s families, who were sitting in the public gallery, cried as the guilty verdicts were given.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Other relatives cheered and punched the air.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In a statement, Max&#8217;s family said: &#8220;Today\u2019s outcome doesn\u2019t change the fact that two families go home without their boys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cBut we can now hopefully begin to process and remember them both and the happy memories both families have of Max and Mason.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Speaking to the BBC, the boys&#8217; mums said that their\u00a0<a class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c9wryxnw0plo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sons were taken from them<\/a>\u00a0in a way that changed their lives forever.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mason&#8217;s family said in a statement that he was &#8220;so lovely&#8221; and &#8220;innocent&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They described how with his death, their family will never be complete.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cIt is impossible to put into words how we feel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;This whole process has been incredibly hard and hearing what we have heard, what happened to him, it is horrible to think about Mason\u2019s last moments,&#8221; They are both wearing grey t-shirts. \" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" \/><\/picture><\/span><\/div><figcaption class=\"ssrcss-1kk6ucf-StyledFigureCaption ehbdhz00\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-y7krbn-Stack e1y4nx260\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Antony Snook, 45, and Riley Tolliver, 18, were found guilty of murdering the boys (Image: <span class=\"ssrcss-tvuve5-StyledFigureCopyright e34k3c20\" role=\"text\">Avon and Somerset Police)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Snook will be sentenced on 19 November, with the four teenagers due to be sentenced on 16 December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">During the trial, the court heard Max and Mason each received fatal stab wounds from two machetes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">One of the weapons used had a blade length of 42cm (16.5in), while a second was 41cm (16in).<\/p>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The jury was told how Max and Mason had been wrongly identified as being responsible for throwing bricks at a house in the neighbouring Hartcliffe area earlier that evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The five accused had set off from Hartcliffe heading to Knowle West \u201chell-bent on revenge\u201d, Ray Tully KC told the court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Snook, from Hartcliffe, Bristol, claimed he &#8220;didn&#8217;t know&#8221; the teenagers were going to kill the boys when he drove them to the area in his Audi Q2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mr Tully said the four younger defendants were all armed and argued all five people were responsible for their deaths, which the jury accepted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">During the trial, the jury was shown CCTV captured from Mason\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It showed the Audi slow down as it passed Max arriving at Mason\u2019s home in Ilminster Avenue shortly after 23:00 BST on the Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The car then drives out of frame, and Max and Mason leave the house together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Seconds later, the same camera captures the Audi reappearing and four people jump out, chasing the boys down the road, before inflicting the fatal injuries in an attack lasting 33 seconds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-19w8cxh-ComponentWrapper-HeadlineComponentWrapper egtrm1f0\" data-component=\"subheadline-block\">\n<h2 id=\"Absolutely-petrified\" class=\"ssrcss-pbttu9-Heading e10rt3ze0\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span role=\"text\">&#8216;Absolutely petrified&#8217;<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Members of the community rushed to Max and Mason who collapsed in the street to try and save them before paramedics arrived.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The friends died in hospital within 15 minutes of each other in the early hours of Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Det Supt Gary Haskins, head of Avon and Somerset Police&#8217;s major crime investigation team, said: \u201cThese were two boys going about their business just out being friends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;They were cut down in the prime of their lives. They must have been absolutely petrified.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;They were attacked for no reason whatsoever by individuals they didn\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Unfortunately in the course of running away from their attackers they sustained injuries&#8230; so severe sadly they succumbed to those injuries.
