{"id":28204,"date":"2024-08-13T08:02:43","date_gmt":"2024-08-13T12:02:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=28204"},"modified":"2024-08-13T08:02:43","modified_gmt":"2024-08-13T12:02:43","slug":"man-who-snatched-24-phones-before-police-car-rammed-his-bike-is-jailed-for-two-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2024\/08\/13\/man-who-snatched-24-phones-before-police-car-rammed-his-bike-is-jailed-for-two-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Man who snatched 24 phones before police car &#8216;rammed&#8217; his bike is jailed for two years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man who used an electric motorbike to snatch 24 phones in one morning in London has been jailed for two years.<\/p>\n<p>Sonny Stringer rode at nearly 50mph before a police car made &#8220;tactical contact&#8221; with his back wheel to knock him off.<\/p>\n<p>The officer acted just as Stringer was about to mount the pavement near a family with a buggy.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old from Islington ran off and tried to throw away a black Faraday bag &#8211; which blocks phone signals and tracking apps &#8211; but was arrested.<\/p>\n<p>The bag contained 22 phones, while two fell out when he was knocked off the bike.<\/p>\n<p>Stringer &#8211; who police called &#8220;London&#8217;s most notorious phone snatcher&#8221;- began his theft spree around 11.15am on 26 March when he and an unknown accomplice rode into the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/city-of-london-7642\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">City of London<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A woman on Blackfriars Bridge was the first victim and had her iPhone 15 snatched from her hand.<\/p>\n<p>But CCTV controllers managed to follow the pair across the financial district and direct police officers on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>The thieves nearly hit someone as they rode over a pedestrian crossing on Fetter Lane, while another person had to run for safety.<\/p>\n<p>Advanced police driver PC Smith made the decision to take down Stringer&#8217;s electric bike near Bank Tube station to protect the public.<\/p>\n<p>A review of the tactical pursuit and containment (TPAC) manoeuvre showed it was proportionate and responsible, said City of London Police.<\/p>\n<p>Stringer pleaded guilty in June and was sentenced last week at Isleworth Crown Court to 20 months for theft and four months for dangerous driving.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;d urge people to be aware of their surroundings when using their mobile phones on the street,&#8221; said Chief Superintendent William Duffy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Limit the opportunities for criminals to target you by reducing the number of times you have your phones out while in the street.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Source: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/sky-news-logo-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/sky-news-logo-1.png\" alt=\"Sky News\" width=\"100\" height=\"20\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/man-who-snatched-24-phones-before-police-car-rammed-his-bike-is-jailed-for-two-years-13196290\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news.sky.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">A man who used an electric motorbike to snatch 24 phones in one morning in London has been jailed for two years.
