{"id":2819,"date":"2016-11-14T18:41:44","date_gmt":"2016-11-14T23:41:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=2819"},"modified":"2016-11-14T18:41:44","modified_gmt":"2016-11-14T23:41:44","slug":"life-sentence-for-stepmom-in-death-and-unbearable-suffering-of-kansas-boy-fed-to-pigs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2016\/11\/14\/life-sentence-for-stepmom-in-death-and-unbearable-suffering-of-kansas-boy-fed-to-pigs\/","title":{"rendered":"Life sentence for stepmom in death and \u2018unbearable suffering\u2019 of Kansas boy fed to pigs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The living hell of Adrian Jones\u2019 last year on earth ended with his emaciated and battered 7-year-old body consumed by pigs.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, one of the adults who inflicted such horrific abuse on the Kansas City, Kan., boy was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>Heather Jones, Adrian\u2019s stepmother, also was sentenced Monday to five years and eight months in prison for two counts of child abuse.<br \/>\nDistrict Judge Mike Grosko followed the terms of the plea agreement and ordered the sentences to run consecutively.<\/p>\n<p>Jones, 30, pleaded guilty in Wyandotte County District Court last month to a charge of first-degree murder.<\/p>\n<p>The boy\u2019s remains were found last year, and authorities said it appeared he had been fed to pigs on property rented by Jones and her husband in the 5200 block of North 99th Street.<\/p>\n<p>Heather Jones\u2019 husband and Adrian\u2019s father, 45-year-old Michael A. Jones, also is charged in the case and is awaiting trial.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Deputy District Attorney Sheryl Lidtke said Monday that it was the most heinous crime she has seen in her 27-year career as a prosecutor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was horribly abused, neglected and ultimately killed,\u201d Lidtke said. \u201cI\u2019m sure his suffering was unbearable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said he was physically and emotionally abused, confined and \u201cessentially starved to death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But on Monday, Lidtke said she wanted to remember Adrian as the curious, energetic boy depicted in a video taken about a year before he died.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was cute as a button,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Adrian\u2019s maternal grandmother, Judy Conway, also spoke Monday about the anguish of enduring the loss of the happy little boy who touched so many people in his short life and was robbed of a future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one had the right to take all of those possibilities away,\u201d Conway said.<\/p>\n<p>When it was her turn to speak, Heather Jones cried as she said she was \u201cdeeply sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have to live with this for the rest of my life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Jones described how she was caught up in an abusive relationship that she still has nightmares about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t have anyone to call. I didn\u2019t have any family to help me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>After the hearing, Conway said Jones is still blaming her husband for what happened.<\/p>\n<p>If she could ask Jones one thing, Conway said it would be why.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow could you do such horrible, horrific things to a child?\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Conway, whose daughter was formerly married to Michael Jones, said that after he was granted custody of Adrian and his siblings, she was not allowed to see them.<\/p>\n<p>The children were home-schooled, and Conway said she thinks that prevented her or anyone else from having access to see what was going on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis could have been prevented,\u201d she said. \u201cIf I would have been able to see them, I would have known what was happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents, Adrian died sometime between Sept. 18 and Oct. 4 last year.<\/p>\n<p>The boy\u2019s remains were found last November.<\/p>\n<p>Police were initially called to the home the day before Thanksgiving 2015 for a domestic disturbance.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Jones was arrested and later charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault in connection with that disturbance.<\/p>\n<p>But while on the scene investigating that incident, police learned that Adrian had not been seen for several months and may have been killed.<\/p>\n<p>On Thanksgiving Day, police served a search warrant on the property and found human remains in a barn.<\/p>\n<p>The remains were later identified as Adrian\u2019s after DNA testing.<\/p>\n<p>Heather and Michael Jones were charged in December with first-degree murder and child abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome Gorman said when announcing charges that the crime scene was \u201cone of the worst things\u201c police investigators had ever seen.<\/p>\n<p>Many of those investigators and police department employees attended Monday\u2019s sentencing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/local\/crime\/article114641128.html#storylink=cpy\" target=\"_blank\">read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">The living hell of Adrian Jones\u2019 last year on earth ended with his emaciated and battered 7-year-old body consumed by pigs.
