One person has been killed and at least 24 others injured in a mass shooting in the US state of Ohio.<\/b><\/p>\n
The shooting happened just after midnight local time (05:00 BST) in the city of Akron.<\/p>\n
Officers at the scene, near Kelly Street and 8th Avenue, discovered dozens of bullet casings and a gun, according to local media reports.<\/p>\n
No one has been arrested or identified as a suspect and an investigation is under way, the<\/p>\n
has confirmed.<\/p>\n
In a statement to the BBC, the force said at least 25 people had been shot, one of whom had been killed.<\/p>\n
It also confirmed many of the victims’ injuries were non-life-threatening, but added that some were in a “more serious condition”.<\/p>\n
Akron’s Mayor, Shammas Malik, and Police Chief Brian Harding later issued a joint statement on social media promising to “bring those responsible to justice”.<\/p>\n
“Our city is reeling after the devastation of senseless violence,” it said.<\/p>\n
“With more than two dozen victims, the pain and trauma reverberates across all of Akron today as we search for answers.”<\/p>\n
It also reassured anyone with information about the shooting that they could come forward anonymously.<\/p>\n
“We need you to speak up in order to prevent further violence and retaliation.<\/p>\n
“Our city government and our Akron Police Department will continue to prioritise public safety as our number one concern as we aim to end gun violence in our community.”<\/p>\n
