{"id":2779,"date":"2016-11-14T07:11:21","date_gmt":"2016-11-14T12:11:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=2779"},"modified":"2016-11-14T07:11:21","modified_gmt":"2016-11-14T12:11:21","slug":"pm-urged-not-to-betray-hillsborough-families-by-scrapping-human-rights-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2016\/11\/14\/pm-urged-not-to-betray-hillsborough-families-by-scrapping-human-rights-act\/","title":{"rendered":"PM urged not to &#8216;betray&#8217; Hillsborough families by scrapping Human Rights Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hillsborough families are urging Prime Minister Theresa May not to \u2018betray\u2019 them by scrapping the Humans Right Act.<\/p>\n<p>Relatives of the 96 unlawfully killed in 1989 are supporting a new Amnesty International initiative to keep the under-threat legislation, Article 2 of which &#8211; \u201cthe right to life\u201d &#8211; proved crucial in strengthening the campaign to overturn the original 1991 inquest verdicts of accidental death.<\/p>\n<p>Campaigners say ditching the Act may prevent similar disasters from being properly investigated while protecting corrupt police and authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Amnesty International\u2019s Laura Trevelyan said: \u2018The Act protects people let down by other avenues of justice. We mustn\u2019t let politicians take those hard-won rights away.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Justice say plans for a replacement Bill of Rights are due to be set out \u2018in due course\u2019 and it would \u2018consult fully\u2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">Hillsborough families are urging Prime Minister Theresa May not to \u2018betray\u2019 them by scrapping the Humans Right Act.
