He said the action was stopping him and his wife from accessing their pensions and had deprived his daughter of a quantity of jewellery.<\/p>\n
The court heard that Police Scotland had seized the jewellery during the probe into his and his wife Lorraine’s activities.<\/p>\n
‘This is affecting my health’<\/strong><\/p>\n On Friday, McLaren asked Lord Arthurson to dismiss the action.<\/p>\n McLaren, who represented himself, said the current action was taking a toll on him.<\/p>\n He said: “This is affecting my health. It is damaging my health.<\/p>\n “I would ask your lordship to give us back my daughter’s jewellery and to have access to our pensions.<\/p>\n “I ask you to dismiss the applications. It is malicious.”<\/p>\n The judge refused to grant McLaren’s request and ordered the pair to return to court for another hearing next month.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The couple, from Bridge of Weir in Renfrewshire, were responsible for\u00a0Scotland’s<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0longest-ever criminal trial.<\/p>\n McLaren was jailed for 11 years in 2017 for his involvement in a \u00a31.6m property fraud scheme.<\/p>\n McLaren’s wife, also 58, was found guilty of two charges involving a fraudulent mortgage application on their own home and money laundering involving a sum of \u00a3128,000.<\/p>\n McLaren was found guilty of 29 charges after a trial at the High Court in\u00a0Glasgow<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that began in September 2015 and heard evidence over 320 days.<\/p>\n His wife was sentenced to two and a half years behind bars but was released after nine months.<\/p>\n During their trial, a court heard how McLaren preyed on vulnerable people by arranging for the title deeds of their homes to be transferred to his associates without the victims’ knowledge.<\/p>\n The estimated cost of the 20-month trial was \u00a37.5m.<\/p>\n Jurors heard of the couple’s lavish lifestyle which included luxury holidays in Dubai and spending \u00a3100,000 on a ring for her and private schools for their children.<\/p>\n In 2021, prosecutor Murdo MacTaggart told Lord Arthurson that the Crown and McLaren had agreed that he had made \u00a31,722,366.64 during his “course of criminal conduct”.<\/p>\n However, both sides had agreed that the Crown could only recover \u00a34,000 from McLaren at that point in time.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Mrs McLaren’s advocate, Tony Lenehan KC, told the court that she had made \u00a3694,950 from criminal conduct. However, prosecutors could only recover \u00a34,215.38 from her at that time.<\/p>\n The Crown have returned to court to seize more assets from the duo under proceeds of crime action.<\/p>\n The new sums being sought haven’t been disclosed.<\/p>\n Prosecutor Dan Byrne told the court at an earlier hearing that the Crown were seeking to confiscate cash in a Royal London pension account held by McLaren.<\/p>\n Lord Arthurson fixed a procedural hearing for 26 September ahead of a full hearing scheduled in October.<\/p>\n Source: \u00a0![\"Lorraine](\"https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/08\/768x432\/skynews-lorraine-mclaren-police-scotland_6254668.jpg?20230818134725\")
