{"id":25070,"date":"2023-04-13T06:33:17","date_gmt":"2023-04-13T10:33:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=25070"},"modified":"2023-04-13T06:33:17","modified_gmt":"2023-04-13T10:33:17","slug":"sharon-beshenivsky-man-extradited-from-pakistan-and-charged-with-murder-over-2005-killing-of-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2023\/04\/13\/sharon-beshenivsky-man-extradited-from-pakistan-and-charged-with-murder-over-2005-killing-of-pc\/","title":{"rendered":"Sharon Beshenivsky: Man extradited from Pakistan and charged with murder over 2005 killing of PC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man has been extradited from Pakistan in connection with the killing of PC Sharon Beshenivsky in 2005, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has said.<\/p>\n<p>Piran Ditta Khan, 74, has been extradited to the UK and charged with murder, robbery, two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon.<\/p>\n<p>PC Beshenivsky was gunned down while responding to a robbery at a travel agent in Bradford in November 2005.<\/p>\n<p>The 38-year-old mother of three children and two stepchildren had only served nine months with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/west-yorkshire-5863\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>West Yorkshire<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/police-6320\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Police<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0when she died.<\/p>\n<p>Her colleague, PC Teresa Millburn, was seriously injured in the same incident.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-article-widget sdc-article-image\">\n<figure class=\"sdc-article-image__figure\">\n<div class=\"sdc-article-image__wrapper\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sdc-article-image__item\" src=\"https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/04\/768x432\/skynews-teresa-milburn-injured_6119629.jpg?20230412225620\" sizes=\"(min-width: 1024px) 1024px, 100vw\" srcset=\"https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/04\/384x216\/skynews-teresa-milburn-injured_6119629.jpg?20230412225620 380w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/04\/768x432\/skynews-teresa-milburn-injured_6119629.jpg?20230412225620 760w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/04\/1600x900\/skynews-teresa-milburn-injured_6119629.jpg?20230412225620 1024w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/04\/2048x1152\/skynews-teresa-milburn-injured_6119629.jpg?20230412225620 2048w\" alt=\"Teresa Milburn\" \/><\/div><figcaption class=\"sdc-article-image__caption\"><span class=\"sdc-article-image__caption-text\">PC Teresa Milburn was seriously injured<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Khan, who was arrested by police in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/pakistan-6263\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Pakistan<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in January 2020, has been remanded into custody to appear before Westminster Magistrates&#8217; Court on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The charges against Khan were authorised in 2006, leading to the issuing of the extradition warrant, the CPS said.<\/p>\n<p>Chief crown prosecutor Joanne Jakymec said: &#8220;Since Piran Ditta Khan was arrested in Pakistan in 2020, our specialist prosecutors have been working closely with our Pakistani partners to complete the legal process in the country so that he could be extradited back to England to face the allegations from almost 20 years ago.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Two men, Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah and Yusuf Abdullah Jama, were sentenced to life in prison in 2006 over the shooting of PC Beshenivsky.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-article-widget sdc-article-image\">\n<figure class=\"sdc-article-image__figure\">\n<div class=\"sdc-article-image__wrapper\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sdc-article-image__item\" src=\"https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/04\/768x432\/skynews-sharon-beshenivsky_6119626.jpg?20230412225303\" sizes=\"(min-width: 1024px) 1024px, 100vw\" srcset=\"https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/04\/384x216\/skynews-sharon-beshenivsky_6119626.jpg?20230412225303 380w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/04\/768x432\/skynews-sharon-beshenivsky_6119626.jpg?20230412225303 760w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/04\/1600x900\/skynews-sharon-beshenivsky_6119626.jpg?20230412225303 1024w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/23\/04\/2048x1152\/skynews-sharon-beshenivsky_6119626.jpg?20230412225303 2048w\" alt=\"Sharon Beshenivsky\" \/><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Shah admitted murder but denied firing the shot which killed PC Beshenivsky, while Jama was convicted of murder after he told the court he shot the officer by accident.<\/p>\n<p>A third man, Faisal Razzaq, a 25-year-old from London, was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter.
