{"id":24520,"date":"2023-01-25T08:08:37","date_gmt":"2023-01-25T13:08:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=24520"},"modified":"2023-01-25T08:08:37","modified_gmt":"2023-01-25T13:08:37","slug":"met-police-says-two-to-three-officers-will-face-charges-every-week-for-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2023\/01\/25\/met-police-says-two-to-three-officers-will-face-charges-every-week-for-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Met Police says two to three officers will face charges every week for months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two to three criminal cases against officers are expected to go to court every week in the coming months, the Met Police commissioner has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The criminal cases are a &#8220;mix of dishonesty, violence and violence against women and girls&#8221;, Sir Mark Rowley said.<\/p>\n<p>He also apologised to the victims of former officer\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/david-carrick-9724\">David Carrick<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and said the public should &#8220;prepare for more painful stories as we confront cases that\u2026 corrupt our integrity&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a meeting of the London Assembly&#8217;s Police and Crime Committee, Sir Mark said the force had not &#8220;applied the same level of ruthlessness&#8221; to upholding its integrity as it applied to fighting crime.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/metropolitan-police-6402\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Met<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0will &#8220;probably find many cases where we got it wrong&#8221; in their review of around 1,000 allegations relating to officers and staff historically accused of sexual offences and domestic abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the &#8220;ghastly case&#8221; of Carrick, he said: &#8220;We&#8217;re all equally horrified we have hundreds in policing who shouldn&#8217;t be here, Carrick is an awful example of that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He offered &#8220;sincere apologies to victims for our failings, he should not have been a police officer &#8211; that&#8217;s obvious&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Sir Mark also apologised to &#8220;women across London who feel let down and whose trust in policing has been let down&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We must improve dramatically for London. Lifting the stone and revealing painful truths will not be resolved overnight&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It will be painful.
