{"id":23946,"date":"2022-11-05T09:11:59","date_gmt":"2022-11-05T13:11:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=23946"},"modified":"2022-11-05T09:11:59","modified_gmt":"2022-11-05T13:11:59","slug":"nick-kyrgios-australian-tennis-player-settles-legal-case-with-wimbledon-fan-he-accused-of-being-drunk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2022\/11\/05\/nick-kyrgios-australian-tennis-player-settles-legal-case-with-wimbledon-fan-he-accused-of-being-drunk\/","title":{"rendered":"Nick Kyrgios: Australian tennis player settles legal case with Wimbledon fan he accused of being drunk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"qa-introduction gel-pica-bold\" role=\"introduction\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-2\"><span data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-2.0\">Nick Kyrgios has settled a legal case with a spectator he accused of being &#8220;drunk out of her mind&#8221; during the Wimbledon final.<\/span><\/p>\n<div data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-3\">\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-3.0\"><span data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-3.0.0\">Anna Palus instructed solicitors to bring defamation proceedings against the 27-year-old Australian.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$list-11\">\n<li class=\"\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$list-11.$list-item-0\"><a class=\"story-body__internal-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/tennis\/62644396\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$list-11.$list-item-0.$undefined-link-1\"><span data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$list-11.$list-item-0.$undefined-link-1.0\">Wimbledon fan to take legal action against Kyrgios<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-4\"><span data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-4.0\">The world number 22 was competing in his first Grand Slam final, which he\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"story-body__internal-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/tennis\/62109725\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-4.$link-2\"><span data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-4.$link-2.0\">lost in four sets to Novak Djokovic.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-5\"><span data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-5.0\">Kyrgios complained to the umpire about a fan, saying she looked &#8220;like she has had about 700 drinks&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-6\"><span data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-6.0\">Palus, who attended the final with her mother, later accused the 2022 Australian Open doubles champion of a &#8220;reckless and entirely baseless allegation&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-7\"><span data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-7.0\">In a statement via Knight Temple Law, which represented Palus, Kyrgios apologised for the comment and said he had agreed to pay a sum to charity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-8\"><span data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-8.0\">&#8220;I told the umpire that a fan, who I now know to be Anna Palus, was distracting me during the match, believing that she was drunk,&#8221; Kyrgios said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-9\"><span data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-9.0\">&#8220;I accept that belief was mistaken, and I apologise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-10\"><span data-reactid=\".134lqhm1xyg.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-10.0\">&#8220;To make amends, I have donated \u00a320,000 to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, a charity chosen by Ms Palus.
