{"id":23300,"date":"2022-09-07T23:15:58","date_gmt":"2022-09-08T03:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=23300"},"modified":"2022-09-07T23:15:58","modified_gmt":"2022-09-08T03:15:58","slug":"final-suspect-in-canada-mass-stabbings-has-died","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2022\/09\/07\/final-suspect-in-canada-mass-stabbings-has-died\/","title":{"rendered":"Final suspect in Canada mass stabbings has died"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The final suspect in the recent mass stabbings in and around a Canadian reserve has died after being run off the road, police have confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Myles Sanderson, 32, was found near the town of Rosthern, in the central Saskatchewan province, as officers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle being driven by a man armed with a knife, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said.<\/p>\n<p>Officers rammed Sanderson&#8217;s vehicle off the road into a ditch, and he was taken into custody, but went into what a spokeswoman described as &#8220;medical distress&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He was taken to hospital, but died shortly afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>Ten people were killed and 18 injured after the attacks in and around the James Smith Cree nation, an indigenous community in the central Saskatchewan province, on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Ten victims remain in hospital, three of them in a critical condition.<\/p>\n<p>At a press conference confirming Myles Sanderson&#8217;s death, RCMP assistant commissioner Rhonda Blackmore said she had visited James Smith Cree nation, home to nine of the ten victims, and said many of them had &#8220;witnessed incredible trauma&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Many people haven&#8217;t slept,&#8221; she said. &#8220;They told me, &#8216;every time I close my eyes, I hear noises&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope this gives them some sense of closure, and that they can rest easier tonight knowing Myles is no longer at large.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope now they are able to start healing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23301\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23301\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Brian-Burns.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-23301\" src=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Brian-Burns.jpg\" alt=\"Brian Burns\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Brian-Burns.jpg 640w, https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Brian-Burns-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23301\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brian Burns&#8217; wife Bonnie and son Gregory were killed in the attacks<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of police officers undertook an extensive manhunt for suspects, Myles and his brother Damien Sanderson, who had fled the crime scenes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/canada-mass-stabbing-one-suspect-in-attack-that-killed-10-people-found-dead-but-his-brother-is-still-at-large-12690987\">Damien was found dead<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in a grassy area of James Smith Cree Nation on Monday, with injuries police said were not self-inflicted.<\/p>\n<p>Myles Sanderson, who officers described as armed and dangerous, remained on the loose until Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The stabbing rampage on Sunday was one of the deadliest attacks in Canada&#8217;s modern history.<\/p>\n<p>Police said some of the victims appeared to have been deliberately targeted, while others were attacked at random.<\/p>\n<p>Officers have not revealed a possible motive, but a statement from an indigenous group from the province suggested the stabbings could be drug-related.<\/p>\n<p>But Ms Blackmore said: &#8220;Unfortunately now that Myles is deceased we may never have an understanding as to that motivation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Violating parole<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Questions are beginning to be asked about why Myles Sanderson &#8211; with 59 convictions and a long history of violence &#8211; was out on the streets.<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old was released by a parole board in February while serving a sentence of more than four years on charges that included assault and robbery.
