Archie Battersbee’s parents have lost an appeal with the Supreme Court – on the day his life-support was due to be withdrawn.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On Monday, Court of Appeal judges ruled that the 12-year-old’s life-sustaining treatment\u00a0should not continue beyond 12:00 BST<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

His parents lodged an application to appeal the decision with the Supreme Court which has been refused.<\/p>\n

Archie’s life support will be switched off at 11am tomorrow his family has said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Archie was found unconscious at home in Southend, Essex, on 7 April.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

He has never regained consciousness and his mother, Hollie Dance, believes he may have been taking part in an online challenge when he suffered brain damage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“I stated I would fight to the bitter end for Archie and as his mum that exactly what I’ve done,” she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“I hope I’ve paved the way for any other parents that want to go up against a trust in this country and the justice system.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

She said she felt the system to decide treatment options where there is a dispute between families and hospital trusts “needs reforming dramatically”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Barts NHS Health Trust, which runs the Royal London Hospital in east London where Archie is being treated, said it would continue to “work with the family to prepare for the withdrawal of treatment”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Doctors treating him have said they\u00a0believe it is “highly likely” he is brain-stem dead<\/a>\u00a0and argued it is in his best interest for life-support to end.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A\u00a0previous High Court ruling<\/a>\u00a0heard Archie’s “every bodily function is now maintained by artificial means”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
