Seventy people were arrested during a spate of Extinction Rebellion protests across London.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Six people, including two Olympic athletes, were detained for\u00a0scaling and gluing themselves to an oil tanker<\/a>\u00a0near Hyde Park on Saturday, police said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Dozens more were arrested at Marble Arch as demonstrators climbed the structure to attach a green banner reading “end fossil fuels now”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Protesters also blocked the road and surrounded a car.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Olympic gold medal-winning canoeist Etienne Stott and sailor Laura Baldwin were among those who glued themselves to the oil tanker.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The action came as activists gathered in Hyde Park and then marched the capital’s streets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Protesters waved flags, set off flares and danced in the street before settling in the road at Marble Arch.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A group of eight activists later locked themselves to a car in the road, while two glued themselves to the roof.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Met said officers had imposed a public order direction on the group to clear the road by 18:00.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It covered an area from Marble Arch gyratory and along Park Lane, Oxford Street, Tyburn Way, Edgware Road, Bayswater Road and Cumberland Gate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The force said 213 people had been arrested since the latest spate of protests began on 9 April.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On Friday protesters also\u00a0blocked four of London’s busiest bridges<\/a>\u00a0and blocked entrances to major insurance\u00a0marketplace Lloyd’s of London<\/a>\u00a0earlier this week.<\/p>\n
