Mark Kirk.<\/p>\n<p>During a debate with Rep. Tammy Duckworth, Kirk, who is running for re-election, questioned her ancestral ties to the American Revolution by invoking her Thai heritage. \u00a0Kirk has apologized for the comments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAttacking someone because of her race and ethnicity is inexcusable for anyone, but especially for a sitting U.S. Senator,\u201d wrote Chad Griffin, the president of HRC. \u00a0\u201cThe diversity of our movement is our greatest strength, and Senator Kirk\u2019s remarks were an affront to our most fundamental values.\u201d \u00a0This is\u00a0the first time the group has rescinded an endorsement.<\/p>\n<p>A few\u00a0hours later, the Americans for Responsible Solutions political action committee, a\u00a0gun violence prevention organization, took away its endorsement of Kirk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">Two days after a racist comment he made about his opponent, the Human Rights Campaign revoked its endorsement of Illinois Sen.
