{"id":19036,"date":"2021-06-07T07:34:06","date_gmt":"2021-06-07T11:34:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=19036"},"modified":"2021-06-07T07:34:06","modified_gmt":"2021-06-07T11:34:06","slug":"egerton-ryerson-statue-toppled-at-canada-indigenous-school-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2021\/06\/07\/egerton-ryerson-statue-toppled-at-canada-indigenous-school-protest\/","title":{"rendered":"Egerton Ryerson statue toppled at Canada indigenous school protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p><b class=\"ssrcss-hmf8ql-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">A statue has been toppled at Ryerson University in Toronto at a protest over the recent discovery of a mass grave of indigenous children at a school.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p>Egerton Ryerson is deemed one of the architects of Canada&#8217;s controversial residential school system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p>His statue had already been vandalised earlier in the week after the suspected remains of 215 children were found.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p>Growing scrutiny of Ryerson has led to calls to change the university name and remove the statue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p>It had already been daubed in red paint with slogans like &#8220;dig them up&#8221;
