Michigan State University previously paid $500m in connection with Larry Nasser&#8217;s sexual abuse of gymnasts and others, while Penn State settled claims related to Jerry Sandusky&#8217;s sexual abuse for more than $109m.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-mysbf6-ComponentWrapper-CrossheadComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\" data-component=\"crosshead-block\">\n<h2 class=\"ssrcss-qozapo-StyledHeading e1fj1fc10\">What&#8217;s the background?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-3z08n3-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>The case arose after the Los Angeles Times published accounts from former and current employees about Dr Tyndall&#8217;s alleged sexual misconduct as a gynaecologist.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-3z08n3-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>Hundreds of women came forward to report misconduct by Dr Tyndall, according to police, though not all cases met the requirements for charges.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-3z08n3-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>The women claimed he made lewd comments, photographed and groped them during medical examinations.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-3z08n3-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>The case saw USC&#8217;s president step down amid sharp criticism of how the institution responded to the abuse claims.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-3z08n3-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>Dr Tyndall worked at the university clinic for 30 years, where he was the only full-time gynaecologist.
