{"id":17918,"date":"2020-12-05T10:02:27","date_gmt":"2020-12-05T15:02:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=17918"},"modified":"2020-12-05T10:02:27","modified_gmt":"2020-12-05T15:02:27","slug":"daca-judge-orders-trump-to-restore-undocumented-immigrants-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2020\/12\/05\/daca-judge-orders-trump-to-restore-undocumented-immigrants-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"Daca: Judge orders Trump to restore undocumented immigrants scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p><b class=\"css-14iz86j-BoldText e5tfeyi0\">A US judge has ordered the Trump administration to fully reinstate a scheme that protects immigrants brought to the country illegally as children from being deported.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>The administration had moved to close the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (Daca) programme to new applicants earlier this year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>But District Judge Nicholas Garaufis on Friday ruled against the restrictions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>He told the administration to announce the full resumption of Daca by Monday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>The Daca programme was introduced by former Democratic President Barack Obama in 2012.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>He set it up to help some of the more than 10 million immigrants who as young people entered the US illegally or overstayed a visa.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"unordered-list-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<div class=\"css-1pzprxn-BulletListContainer e5tfeyi3\">\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li><a class=\"css-yidnqd-InlineLink e1no5rhv0\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/av\/world-us-canada-41170097\/trump-i-have-great-love-for-daca-dreamers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trump: &#8216;I have great love&#8217; for Daca Dreamers<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a class=\"css-yidnqd-InlineLink e1no5rhv0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-53098756\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8216;Daca means continuing to live the American dream&#8217;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>Most of the children protected by the Daca programme are from Mexico and other Latin American countries. These migrants are known as &#8220;Dreamers&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>The scheme protected an estimated 700,000 people, offering temporary permits for work and study.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>But as part of his efforts to curb immigration, US President Donald Trump sought to end the programme in 2017, calling it unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i83\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>The Supreme Court took up the case after lower courts ruled the administration did not adequately explain why it was ending the programme, criticising the White House&#8217;s &#8220;capricious&#8221;
