They were used for the underwater battle in the 1965 James Bond film Thunderball and have been employed by real-life militaries around the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i81\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>Officials said that when they moved in to arrest Mr Piercey he fled in a pickup truck, twice driving off the road. He was then seen jumping in to the lake near the city of Redding with a strange device in his hand.<\/p>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i81\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>Police later learned that the model he used, a Yamaha 350Li, can reach speeds of 4mph (6.5km\/h) and can travel 100ft underwater.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Yamaha-350Li.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17853\" src=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Yamaha-350Li.jpg\" alt=\"Yamaha 350Li\" width=\"600\" height=\"318\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Yamaha-350Li.jpg 600w, https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Yamaha-350Li-300x159.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i81\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>&#8220;You never know what is going through someone&#8217;s mind when they&#8217;re being pursued by the FBI,&#8221; said lawyer Josh Kons, who is representing several victims of the alleged fraud.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i81\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>&#8220;And we kept investigating, and all of a sudden today, here he is trying to escape into a lake, using a submersible device.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i81\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>After Mr Piercey emerged,\u00a0<a class=\"css-yidnqd-InlineLink e1no5rhv0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/news\/business\/article247228124.html#:~:text=Matthew%20Piercey%20spent%20nearly%2030,year%2Dold%20has%20an%20attorney.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">police medics examined him for hypothermia<\/a>\u00a0and gave him dry clothes they had collected from his wife, according to the Sacramento Bee news website.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i81\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>Investigators say that he and his business partner Kenneth Winton used funds invested in their companies, Family Wealth Legacy and Zolla, to pay for personal expenses, and that few liquid assets remained for them to return to clients.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i81\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>Mr Piercey is charged with wire fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, and witness tampering and is facing 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i81\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"css-83cqas-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi2\">\n<p>Prosecutors have also deemed him a flight risk.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-us-canada-54977909\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">It was a getaway attempt worthy of Ian Fleming, but in the end, a suspected US fraudster proved he was no James Bond.
