{"id":17233,"date":"2020-06-17T03:56:45","date_gmt":"2020-06-17T07:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=17233"},"modified":"2020-06-17T03:56:45","modified_gmt":"2020-06-17T07:56:45","slug":"dr-congo-judge-died-by-being-stabbed-in-the-head","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2020\/06\/17\/dr-congo-judge-died-by-being-stabbed-in-the-head\/","title":{"rendered":"DR Congo judge died by being &#8216;stabbed in the head&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">A judge who was said to have died of a heart attack while overseeing a corruption trial involving the president&#8217;s chief of staff in the Democratic Republic of Congo actually died of stab wounds to the head, the justice minister has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Celestin Tunda Ya Kasende said a murder investigation had now been launched.<\/p>\n<p>In May, police said Judge Raphael Yanyi had died of a heart attack.<\/p>\n<p>He had been presiding over the trial for corruption of Vital Kamerhe.<\/p>\n<p>But an autopsy has since shown &#8220;he died a violent death, due to the blows of sharp points or knife-like objects, which were thrust into his head&#8221;, Justice Minister Celestin Tunda Ya Kasende told Reuters news agency on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Yanyi&#8217;s body also showed signs of &#8220;toxic substances in non-lethal doses&#8221;, the justice ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kamerhe, once a key member of President Felix Tshisekedi&#8217;s government, is accused of embezzling more than $50m (\u00a339m) of public funds.
