He denies any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>Whether Mr Ghosn has struck a deal with prosecutors or fled is unknown. The businessman holds French and Lebanese passports.<\/p>\n<p>French newspaper Les Echos reports that\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/industrie-services\/automobile\/carlos-ghosn-a-quitte-le-japon-pour-beyrouth-1159576\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">he allegedly arrived in a private jet which flew to Lebanon from Turkey<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; although this is unconfirmed. And\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/carlos-ghosn-arrives-in-lebanon-after-fleeing-japan-11577741238\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Wall Street Journal quotes a source who says Mr Ghosn fled Tokyo<\/a>, amid reports he did not think he could get a fair trial in the country.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-50163026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">His lawyers have accused the Japanese government of conspiring against him<\/a>, calling the prosecution&#8217;s case &#8220;politically motivated&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Once considered a hero in Japan for turning around Nissan &#8211; and becoming the subject of a comic book there &#8211;\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-47466766\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mr Ghosn spent 108 days in custody<\/a>\u00a0after his arrest in Tokyo in November 2018.<\/p>\n<p>While he has since been released, he was under strict bail conditions and could not leave Japan.<\/p>\n<p>He faces four charges &#8211; including an allegation by Nissan that he diverted money for his own gain.\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-46298999\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nissan sacked him three days after his arrest<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lb.emb-japan.go.jp\/itpr_ja\/00_000228.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Japan&#8217;s Foreign Minister Keisuke Suzuki visited Beirut on 20 December<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-50952335\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">Former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn has reportedly travelled to Lebanon after leaving Japan, media outlets say.
