{"id":15910,"date":"2019-11-01T12:36:25","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T16:36:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=15910"},"modified":"2019-11-01T12:36:25","modified_gmt":"2019-11-01T16:36:25","slug":"conor-mcgregor-convicted-of-assault-in-dublin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2019\/11\/01\/conor-mcgregor-convicted-of-assault-in-dublin\/","title":{"rendered":"Conor McGregor convicted of assault in Dublin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor has pleaded guilty to one charge of assault after an altercation in a Dublin pub in April.<\/p>\n<p>Footage of the incident released in August showed McGregor punching Desmond Keogh in the head at the Marble Arch pub in Drimnagh, south of the centre.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the 31-year-old was convicted and fined 1,000 euros (\u00a3861).<\/p>\n<p>The court heard Mr Keogh did not want to give a victim statement and that he had accepted an apology from McGregor.<\/p>\n<p>McGregor was promoting his own brand of whiskey at the pub when the altercation took place on 6 April.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It doesn&#8217;t matter what happened there &#8211; I was in the wrong,&#8221;\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aTSgPzmehQM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">he told ESPN in August<\/a>. &#8220;That man deserved to enjoy his time in the pub without having it end the way it did.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Irishman announced his retirement from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in March, but has since said\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/mixed-martial-arts\/50166883\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">he plans to make his return to the sport in January 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He has not competed since\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/mixed-martial-arts\/45775001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">his loss to Russia&#8217;s Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time McGregor has had trouble with the law.
