{"id":15860,"date":"2019-10-25T08:24:38","date_gmt":"2019-10-25T12:24:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=15860"},"modified":"2019-10-25T08:24:38","modified_gmt":"2019-10-25T12:24:38","slug":"harry-dunn-crash-victims-family-to-take-foreign-office-to-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2019\/10\/25\/harry-dunn-crash-victims-family-to-take-foreign-office-to-court\/","title":{"rendered":"Harry Dunn: Crash victim&#8217;s family to take Foreign Office to court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">The family of Harry Dunn is to begin legal action against the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).<\/p>\n<p>Harry, 19, died outside RAF Croughton in a crash with a car owned by US citizen Anne Sacoolas, who later left the UK claiming diplomatic immunity.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier the Dunn family held a meeting with human rights barrister Geoffrey Robertson QC.<\/p>\n<p>Family spokesperson Radd Seiger told Sky News: &#8220;The first action we will be taking is against the FCO.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The family has also referred Northamptonshire Police to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).<\/p>\n<p>A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said the force would be happy to support the IOPC with any concerns raised by the family.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Seiger said: &#8220;We will be shortly issuing a letter of claim which is a prelude to a judicial review.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are absolutely clear that the Foreign Office&#8217;s decision to advise Northamptonshire Police that Mrs Sacoolas had the benefit of diplomatic immunity was unlawful and we will be seeking a judicial review of that decision to have it quashed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He also appealed for Mrs Sacoolas &#8220;to come back to this country and face the music&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>An FCO spokeswoman said: &#8220;We have done everything we can properly to clear a path so that justice can be done for Harry&#8217;s family.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As the foreign secretary set out in Parliament, the individual involved had diplomatic immunity whilst in the country under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The FCO said it would respond to any legal action in due course.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">&#8216;Deep concerns&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>On Tuesday, Northamptonshire Police Chief Constable Nick Adderley said Mrs Sacoolas would be\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-northamptonshire-50134394\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">interviewed under caution<\/a>\u00a0in the US.<\/p>\n<p>Officers are waiting for the necessary visas.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-49984737\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harry Dunn crash: What is diplomatic immunity?<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-northamptonshire-50096928\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dunn crash death suspect &#8216;expected to be charged&#8217;<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-northamptonshire-50134394\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dunn crash suspect to be quizzed under caution<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mr Seiger said the force had &#8220;not disclosed all the information this family are entitled to&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have deep concerns about the manner in which this investigation was conducted, and simply adding insult to injury to this family at their darkest hour,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Adderley had previously said Northamptonshire Police had at all times &#8220;acted with the utmost integrity and transparency&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Seiger said: &#8220;This family have a steely determination about them to ensure that Harry has not died in vain.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think the whole nation, the whole world now, is looking at this set of circumstances and it isn&#8217;t right.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Dunn&#8217;s motorbike was in a collision outside RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire on 27 August.
