The Pennsylvania Republican Party has filed a lawsuit in federal court claiming the state’s poll watcher law is unconstitutional.<\/p>\n

The\u00a01937 law says poll watchers may\u00a0monitor locations only within the county in which they are registered to vote. \u00a0The lawsuit claims\u00a0the law violates free speech because some electoral districts are not restricted to a single county.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia Democratic Party chairman Bob Brady called the lawsuit a “ridiculous” attempt at voter suppression and said further:\u00a0“They should mind their business and stay in their own county. There’s no evidence whatsoever of voter tampering.”<\/p>\n

In a statement, the GOP said the lawsuit is seeking to ensure “the fairest election possible,” and maintains neither partisanship nor election fraud is at issue. \u00a0It is not clear if\u00a0a district court judge will hear the case before election day.<\/p>\n
