{"id":1553,"date":"2016-10-24T05:42:34","date_gmt":"2016-10-24T09:42:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=1553"},"modified":"2016-10-24T05:42:34","modified_gmt":"2016-10-24T09:42:34","slug":"defamation-suit-against-rolling-stone-magazine-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2016\/10\/24\/defamation-suit-against-rolling-stone-magazine-continues\/","title":{"rendered":"Defamation Suit Against Rolling Stone Magazine Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Charlottesville Virginia,\u00a0jurors are heading back to court for a\u00a0second week in\u00a0the trial pitting the University of Virginia against Rolling Stone magazine over their\u00a02014 story about a rape at the university.<\/p>\n<p>The story was the\u00a0account of a woman identified only as &#8220;Jackie.&#8221; \u00a0In the account titled\u00a0&#8220;A Rape on Campus,&#8221; she\u00a0claimed seven men gang raped her. \u00a0 A later investigation revealed\u00a0no evidence to back up her\u00a0claim.<\/p>\n<p>University administrator Nicole Eramo is seeking\u00a0$7.5 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages for her article portrayal as UVA\u2019s callous front, more interested in the school\u2019s image than in justice.<\/p>\n<p>This week, the jurors may be shown a video of &#8220;Jackie&#8217;s&#8221; deposition which was taken in April. \u00a0The trial, which began last Monday, could\u00a0last 12 days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">In Charlottesville Virginia,\u00a0jurors are heading back to court for a\u00a0second week in\u00a0the trial pitting the University of Virginia against Rolling Stone magazine over their\u00a02014 story about a rape at the university.
