{"id":15234,"date":"2019-08-04T08:12:23","date_gmt":"2019-08-04T12:12:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=15234"},"modified":"2019-08-04T08:12:23","modified_gmt":"2019-08-04T12:12:23","slug":"pilots-arrested-at-glasgow-airport-before-boarding-us-flight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2019\/08\/04\/pilots-arrested-at-glasgow-airport-before-boarding-us-flight\/","title":{"rendered":"Pilots arrested at Glasgow Airport before boarding US flight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Two United Airlines pilots have been arrested at Glasgow Airport for allegedly failing a breath test before boarding a flight to New York.<\/p>\n<p>The men, aged 45 and 61, have not been charged but remain in custody and are expected to appear before Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Police Scotland confirmed officers were called to the airport at 07:35 BST.<\/p>\n<p>The men were arrested before boarding flight UA162.<\/p>\n<p>It was expected to take off for Newark, New Jersey at around 09:00 but was cancelled.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">Pilots jailed<\/h2>\n<p>United Airlines said in a statement the safety of its customers and crew was &#8220;always our top priority&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It said: &#8220;We hold all of our employees to the highest standards and have a strict, no tolerance policy for alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These pilots were immediately removed from service and we are fully cooperating with local authorities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this time, we are working to get our customers back on their journey as soon as possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed two men, aged 61 and 45, have been arrested and remain in police custody pending a scheduled court appearance on Tuesday 6 August for alleged offences under the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation covers carrying out pilot duties while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.<\/p>\n<p>The limit for alcohol detected in the breath for pilots is less than half the limit for drivers in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, two United Airline pilots were jailed for breaching drink-fly limits at Glasgow Airport.<\/p>\n<p>First Officer Paul Grebenc, 35, was sentenced to 10 months in prison.<\/p>\n<p>His colleague Carlos Roberto Licona, 45, was jailed for 15 months.<\/p>\n<p>Both had been arrested while preparing to take off from Glasgow on 27 August 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-49222120\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">Two United Airlines pilots have been arrested at Glasgow Airport for allegedly failing a breath test before boarding a flight to New York.
