{"id":15074,"date":"2019-07-18T11:06:20","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T15:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=15074"},"modified":"2019-07-18T11:06:20","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T15:06:20","slug":"met-police-officer-bought-tv-porn-at-home-of-dead-childs-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2019\/07\/18\/met-police-officer-bought-tv-porn-at-home-of-dead-childs-family\/","title":{"rendered":"Met Police officer bought TV porn at home of dead child&#8217;s family"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"story-body\">\n<div class=\"story-body__inner\">\n<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">A Met Police officer has admitted buying pornography at the family home of a dead child while he waited for an undertaker to arrive.<\/p>\n<p>PC Avi Maharaj was on duty alone at the south London home when he used the family&#8217;s Virgin TV account and spent \u00a325.96 on 11 February 2018.<\/p>\n<p>It is understood he made four purchases &#8211; at least two of which were made when the child&#8217;s body remained in the house.<\/p>\n<p>Maharaj, 44, of Kingswood Place, Hayes, has indicated a guilty plea to fraud.<\/p>\n<p>After Tuesday&#8217;s hearing at Westminster Magistrates&#8217; Court, he was bailed for pre-sentence reports to be made for a hearing on 6 August.<\/p>\n<p>The Met said the officer, from the south west command unit, is currently on restricted duties.<\/p>\n<p>His conviction follows a complaint from a member of the child&#8217;s family, which led to an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).<\/p>\n<p>The watchdog also found evidence he may have falsified his attendance log to cover his actions.<\/p>\n<p>IOPC regional director Sal Naseem, said: &#8220;PC Maharaj&#8217;s behaviour was shocking and even more so given he was guarding the property in the absence of the homeowner.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not only were his actions deceitful but he caused considerable distress for the family involved who were dealing with the sudden death of a family member.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am sorry that the family involved had to deal with this while also coping with the tragic loss of their child.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Met said misconduct proceedings will take place following the conclusion of criminal proceedings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"topic-tags\">\n<div id=\"u20486874761991203\">\n<div class=\"tags-container\">Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-london-49033856\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">A Met Police officer has admitted buying pornography at the family home of a dead child while he waited for an undertaker to arrive.
