{"id":14204,"date":"2019-03-19T11:26:43","date_gmt":"2019-03-19T15:26:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=14204"},"modified":"2019-03-19T11:26:43","modified_gmt":"2019-03-19T15:26:43","slug":"aurea-vazquez-rijos-beauty-queen-jailed-for-husbands-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2019\/03\/19\/aurea-vazquez-rijos-beauty-queen-jailed-for-husbands-murder\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00c1urea V\u00e1zquez Rijos: Beauty queen jailed for husband&#8217;s murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">A Puerto Rican woman has received a life prison sentence for hiring a hitman to murder her wealthy Canadian husband 14 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c1urea V\u00e1zquez Rijos, who fled to Europe after the killing, professed her innocence as she learned her fate.<\/p>\n<p>V\u00e1zquez Rijos had fled to Italy and Spain after watching her husband, Adam Anhang, fatally knifed on the streets of San Juan in September 2005.<\/p>\n<p>In court she angrily told the victim&#8217;s father: &#8220;I hope you&#8217;re happy now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Shut up!&#8221; responded 80-year-old Abraham Anhang after he was accused of character assassination by the former beauty queen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You lost [a son] but I lost, too,&#8221; she said during Friday&#8217;s hearing, according to the Winnipeg Free Press.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I lost a man I love. I was murdered. A part of me died&#8230; I am innocent and time will prove it. That is all.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the hearing, which was held at a federal court near where Anhang died, the judge recommended she spend the rest of her life in a Fort Worth, Texas, prison.<\/p>\n<p>The details of her time on the run, during which she gave birth to three children including one in jail, makes for extraordinary reading.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-us-canada-45177674\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Puerto Rico murder that a sparked decade-long manhunt<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/1808E\/production\/_103064489_couple_976.jpg\" alt=\"Aurea and Adam\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><figcaption class=\"media-caption\"><span class=\"media-caption__text\">The marriage was short-lived<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Investigators say Anhang, a 32-year-old Winnipeg real estate developer who earned millions of dollars from online gaming, was murdered days after he declared his intention to seek a divorce from V\u00e1zquez Rijos &#8211; six months after they wed.<\/p>\n<p>He was killed by a restaurant worker hired by V\u00e1zquez Rijos, who promised to pay $3m (\u00a32.3m) for the crime to appear to be a mugging gone wrong.<\/p>\n<p>V\u00e1zquez Rijos was slightly injured in the attack, and was not suspected until a witness came forward.<\/p>\n<p>The witness said they had seen the assailant speak to V\u00e1zquez Rijos before lightly striking her after Anhang had been brutally beaten and stabbed.<\/p>\n<p>An innocent man was convicted and spent eight months in jail as V\u00e1zquez Rijos fled to Florence, Italy, and sued her deceased husband&#8217;s parents for $9m from his estate.<\/p>\n<p>US Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez said in a statement: &#8220;Today&#8217;s sentence concludes a process which required a lot of effort and perseverance.
