Facebook post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Actress Tina Malone has been given a suspended prison sentence after she admitted breaching an injunction protecting the identity of James Bulger&#8217;s killer Jon Venables.<\/p>\n<p>There is a\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-merseyside-43987311\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">global ban<\/a>\u00a0on publishing anything about the identity of Venables or his accomplice Robert Thompson.<\/p>\n<p>Malone&#8217;s barrister said the ex-Shameless and Brookside star accepted she had breached the injunction.<\/p>\n<p>She was given an eight-month suspended sentence and ordered to pay \u00a310,000.<\/p>\n<p>The 56-year-old actress pleaded guilty to the charge of contempt of court earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Malone, who was wearing a leopard print coat, told the court she had been living in Liverpool at the time of James&#8217;s murder and knew his killers had been given anonymity when they were released.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">Mental health problems<\/h2>\n<p>She shared the Facebook message in February last year, which was said to include an image and the new name of Venables, the High Court heard.<\/p>\n<p>The court heard Malone initially said she had not been aware she had done anything wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Her barrister, Adam Speker, said she had mental health problems at the time she shared the post and was caring for her five-year-old daughter and elderly mother.<\/p>\n<p>He said his client understood Venables had been given anonymity for his protection but there were no characteristics of vigilantism in Ms Malone&#8217;s case.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9869\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9869\" style=\"width: 421px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Jon-Venables.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9869\" src=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Jon-Venables.jpg\" alt=\"Jon Venables\" width=\"421\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Jon-Venables.jpg 421w, https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Jon-Venables-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 421px) 100vw, 421px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9869\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jon Venables was 10 when he and Robert Thompson killed James Bulger.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Venables and Thompson were 10 when they tortured and killed James after abducting the two-year-old from a shopping centre in Bootle, Merseyside, in 1993.<\/p>\n<p>In November that year, they became the\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-merseyside-21413364\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">youngest children ever to be convicted <\/a>of murder in England.<\/p>\n<p>They have been living under new identities since they were released in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>Solicitor General Robert Buckland QC said: &#8220;The injunction in this case is intended to both protect the identities of the offenders, but also innocent individuals who may be incorrectly identified as them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Posting this material online is a very serious matter and can result in a prison sentence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In January, two people were\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-merseyside-47074573\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">given suspended sentences<\/a>\u00a0after admitting posting photos on social media they said identified Venables.<\/p>\n<p>Richard McKeag, 28, was handed a 12-month sentence and Natalie Barker, 36, was given eight months, both suspended for two years.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the father of James Bulger\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-merseyside-47400408\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lost a legal challenge to try to change the lifelong anonymity order<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-merseyside-47553107\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">Actress Tina Malone has been given a suspended prison sentence after she admitted breaching an injunction protecting the identity of James Bulger&#8217;s killer Jon Venables.
